Dulce man indicted for violent assault involving knife and table

A man from Dulce has been indicted on federal charges after allegedly assaulting another individual with a table and a knife, resulting in serious injuries. The incident took place on October 27, 2025.

According to court records, Russell Alan Veneno, age 50 and an enrolled member of the Jicarilla Apache Nation, is accused of causing significant bodily harm during the assault. He faces federal charges for assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury. If convicted, Veneno could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.

First Assisting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, announced the indictment.

The case was investigated by the Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office with support from the Jicarilla Apache Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eliot Neal is prosecuting.

“An indictment or criminal complaint is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” officials stated.
