A Fruitland resident, Timothy Begay, has been indicted on federal charges for the alleged murder of a woman identified as Jane Doe. According to court documents, Begay, 38, who is an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, is accused of intentionally killing Jane Doe on December 9, 2024.
Begay faces a charge of second-degree murder and will be released to a halfway house under third-party supervision while awaiting trial. The date for the trial has not yet been set. If convicted, he could receive a sentence of up to life in prison.
The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office. The investigation was conducted by the Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office with assistance from the Navajo Nation Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Marshall is prosecuting the case.
“An indictment is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” officials stated.
