A man from Mentmore, New Mexico, has admitted guilt to charges stemming from a violent assault on an intimate partner. Alery Al Reid, 26, who is a member of the Navajo Nation, pleaded guilty in federal court to two felony counts: assault by strangulation and assault resulting in substantial bodily injury.
Court documents state that on December 5, 2024, Reid punched, strangled, and threatened to kill the victim referred to as Jane Doe. He now faces up to ten years in prison and will be subject to three years of supervised release after completing his sentence.

The investigation was led by the Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office with support from the Navajo Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark A. Probasco is prosecuting the case.
